5E Character Creation

Character creation will take place during session 0 (or on the Discord for late additions).

For a character sheet, you can use whatever works best for you. I suggest either this official sheet or this one from MCDM.

Character creation follows the steps in the D&D Player’s Handbook and the Basic Rules with the following exceptions:

Ability Scores

You may choose to use one of following standard arrays, applying them to your abilities of choice. (These standard arrays already include any potential racial or background bonus, so you do not gain those if choosing this option.)

  • 16 (+3), 14 (+2), 14 (+2), 12 (+1), 12 (+1), 8 (-1)

  • 16 (+3), 14 (+2), 14 (+2), 12 (+1), 10 (+0), 10 (+0)

Feats

You may begin play with one feat of your choice, provided you meet the prerequisites. (This takes the place of your background feat, if granted one.)

Please check with me, @cobbland on Discord, to confirm your chosen feat.

Character Portrait

Optionally, find or make a character portrait.

There are many ways to find a picture to use as a character’s portrait. It is recommended to search on Pintrest. Start by searching for “dnd character portrait” and refine the search as needed, such as by adding class and gender.

Once you find something you like, share it with @cobbland on Discord, and it will be made into a token for session play.

Optional Level Zero Play

Level 0. Play begins at level o. Skip class selection when creating a character, reserving that (and everything it grants you) until reaching level 1, after your first adventure. Your starting HP is 4 + CON and you have 1d4 HD (both to be replaced by your future class), and your starting Proficiency Bonus is +1.

Peasant. Instead of the above, use Peasant.
