Hail and well met, traveler! Welcome to The Kantas Expanse, where adventure is abundant and something new and exciting is always around the next corner. This campaign setting is specifically designed to accommodate a large number of players and multiple Dungeon Masters, so there's always space at our table! Taking elements of Ars Ludi’s West Marches Campaign and adding features of our own, we have built a persistent campaign world for anyone to enjoy.
The Kantas Expanse was first established in April 2017, and since then we have run well over 1000 sessions for hundreds of players. We've seen adventurers arrive as wanderers, escapees and pirates, and leave heroes, leaders, corpses (rarely) but always legends.
This is a campaign where you can drive the story forward. While DMs will put up games every week, players can submit hooks for threads they'd like to pick up on - could we go and meet that satyr from the other week who had spoken of a looming threat in the forest or return to that door in the dungeon we never quite managed to open? You can let other adventurers know of opportunities out there through talk and RP via our Discord, or writeups on our Forum.
Our players also benefit through the LRC D&D Beyond account of having access to all the 5th Edition sourcebooks for free! You'll see more about that later, but it'll mean you have tons of options and resources for your character.
There's a huge world out there, in Kantas and the realms beyond - we can't wait for you to join us!
How To Join Kantas Right Now
Join our Discord and meet the other players and DMs. When you come to selecting Roles for yourself in the Discord, be sure to grab the Kantas Player role!
In the #kantas-general channel in the Discord, ask the DMs for a first-timer boost for a guaranteed spot in the next Beginner Friendly game - a game specifically designed to welcome new players! Type ?kwelcome in the channel as well to receive a form with some questions to help us get you started.
Create your character on D&D Beyond (while getting all the WotC sourcebooks for free). The details and rules for Character Creation are here in this guide.
Please note you do need to be 18+ to join our campaign. Also, you need to start with a Beginner Friendly session regardless of previous experience in RPGs - it's how we introduce you to our wonderful setting.
We run multiple Kantas games every week. Currently all games run online through our Discord server, so you can join from anywhere! While the sessions are all one-shots, every storyline happens in the same setting and is connected to the rest of the games by an overarching plot. It is just like a long-running campaign except you don’t need to commit to coming every week. You can bring the same character to any Kantas game and enjoy character progression, levelling up, and playing with a (slightly) different group of people.
For help with character creation, how to sign up to games after your first time and much more please keep reading the rest of this guide!
I went through the Player’s Guide, but still confused about the forum that you have?
There are two main purposes for the forum. Firstly, it’s used to sign up for games using ‘Rumours’. Once you sign up to a ‘Rumour’ on the forum (they usually go live at noon Saturdays), you will be added to the respective Sesh event automatically when it's released on the Discord (usually Sunday afternoon). If you check out the #kantas-events channel, you'll see these events listed there by the Sesh bot, and how you can add yourself to the waitlist for a session via emotes (again, after you've had your First Time Boost session as above).
The second fantastic section on the forum is ‘Session Write Ups’, where you can write a summary of the session you’ve played for everyone's enjoyment. This helps us keep track of what happens, acts as a creative outlet for players and you get rewards when you do it!

Well what’s the Discord about then?
We use Discord for running the actual games online in our audio-video channels. Also, you can use the #kantas-general channel to talk about your Kantas characters, interesting lore, rules discussions or anything else that doesn’t quite fit on the forum. Want to have an RP moment with another character(s)? Check out the #kantas-rp-threads channel! We also generally manage Downtime Activities of Kantas characters in #kantas-downtime-general channel. Downtime rules can be found here in the Players Guide!
It sounds like this game has been going on for a while. I want to know all of the lore that happened before!
We are glad you asked. Write Ups by players are great, but this LegendKeeper site is also a wiki for most of the main locations and NPCs in Kantas, including a timeline of major events written by Kantas Worldbuilders. Check out The Story So Far!
