The Hearth & Hammer Smithy stands proudly in the heart of Briarhill. The rhythmic sound of hammer on anvil can often be heard echoing through the streets, drawing in locals and travelers alike. The building itself is robust and functional, with sturdy stone walls and an open forge visible from the street. A heavy iron sign swings above the door, depicting a hammer striking an anvil, the mark of a master blacksmith.
Inside, the smithy is a place of controlled chaos. The walls are lined with racks of weapons, tools, and metalwork, all meticulously organized despite the clatter of ongoing work. Weapons of fine make gleam on display, from swords and axes to shields and intricate armor, while horseshoes, nails, and farm tools lie stacked near the forge. The air is thick with the heat of the flames and the smell of burning coal, punctuated by the sharp tang of molten metal. The forge’s fire burns bright, casting a warm, flickering glow over the workspace, while the constant crackle and hiss of cooling metal gives the smithy its pulse of life.
At the center of it all is Thorin Ironfell, the master blacksmith. A gruff dwarf with a broad chest and arms hardened from years of wielding a hammer, Thorin is a craftsman through and through. His work is renowned throughout Altoria for its precision and durability, and he takes immense pride in each piece he forges. Thorin may be rough around the edges, with a no-nonsense attitude and a deep, rumbling voice, but his fair treatment of customers and unwavering commitment to quality has earned him respect far and wide. Whether he’s hammering out a custom blade for a noble or repairing a farmer’s plow, Thorin’s passion for his craft is evident in every strike of the hammer. He demands excellence not only from himself but from anyone who steps into his forge.
One of those individuals is his daughter, Brinna Ironfell, an eager apprentice following in her father’s footsteps. Brinna is determined to carry on the family tradition, but while she has inherited her father’s skill and dedication, she still has much to learn. Her enthusiasm sometimes gets ahead of her abilities, but her mistakes only fuel her drive to improve. With her hands often covered in soot and sweat from long hours at the forge, Brinna works diligently, soaking up every lesson Thorin offers, even if her father’s critiques are sometimes tough. She’s growing into a talented smith in her own right, slowly earning her place in the world of metalwork, but she’s keen to prove that she can do more than just live in her father’s shadow.
