Originally from the Elemental Plane of Water, many tritons entered the Tenth’s World’s Material Plane during previous eras to seek out Numenera amid the Ancients' sunken ruins, which litter the ocean floor. Long-established guardians of the deep ocean floor, the noble tritons have gradually become increasingly active in the world above.

Physical Description

Tritons have webbed hands and feet, small fins on their calves, and coloration that favors blues and greens. Tritons are slightly shorter than humans, averaging about 5 feet tall. They reach maturity around age 15 and can live up to 200 years.

While they are adapted to living below the waves, the Triton are not fish and any comparisons made between the two are considered an insult.

Names

Most triton names have two or three syllables. Male names typically end with a vowel and the letter s, and female names traditionally end with an n. Tritons use their home protectorate as a surname, with the name formed by adding a vowel followed by a “th” to the end of the protectorate’s name.

Tritons in Tenth World

Society

The Triton migrated from the Elemental Plane of Water after the end of __ Era, when Vessel became a Shard of Divinity. Since then, they have build settlements and strongholds beneath the waves, increasingly coming to shore to trade the many Numenera they find below the waves using their cypher-powered submarines.

It is speculated that the Triton take refuge in the Plane of Water whenever the world has been shattered, but the truth of this is unknown and travel to the Plane of Water is a closely kept secret among the Triton.
