They traveled from the stars, ships raining down from the heavens. Eons have passed but the history of the various Elvish people persists.

Elves in Tenth World are very similar to those described in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes by Wizards of the Coast.

The summary is this:

  • Physical maturity is reached at 20 but cultural maturity occurs at 42 years of age. Elves on their own before a century old are considered wayward children by other elves. World wide it is known to be dangerous for an elf to be alone without other older elves prior to reaching elvish maturity.

  • Prior to 42 years old elves still have haphazard access to their 'primal' memories. aka memories from previous lives.

  • Elf souls are finite. Each elf born is a 'recycled' soul. Each elf is still an individual and not tied to the previous life by anything more than fleeting memories.

  • At a forty two years old elves experience 'the drawing of the veil' where they lose access to their primal memories. Elder elves guide younger elves through this trying ordeal. Not being with other elves when the drawing occurs is traumatic and can lead to madness.

  • When an elf reaches the near end of their life (around 251 years or so) the primal memories begin to bleed back in and are often difficult to discern from living memories. An ancient elf outside of a supportive community is often extremely dangerous due to this breakdown of sanity.
