Senek is an island made of long stretches of huge fractured pieces of blue ice. The city of Senek is situated on top of an active shield volcano, within it lies a dangerous organism dubbed Brún Kâldgass (Brown mold). During eruptions, which happen every two months, a large plume of volcanic ash filled with brown mold falls onto the land. While the people of Senek have either build up resistance to the mold or have natural remedies, the lands around Senek become uninhabitable and poisounous. Together with the winter storm that rages around Senek it is almost impossible for outsiders to invade Senek.
Only indigenous creatures are able to survive on the island. Creatures such as the icicle snail, giant lemming and Kâldlânic pika have adapted to survive these mold covered frostlands.
Nobody comes to live in Senek without a reason, only creatures that can survive the worst of the worst are able to thrive. To the people of Senek, other northlanders are weak and unwise, their desire to stay isolated from others is part of Senekians amusement. They allow recent arrivals to live near the cracks of the volcano, laughing at the sweating ill turning faces of the newcomers.
Three hundred years ago a Lærer Kønigr gifted his seven jarls (chieftains) with land to simplify controlling his kingdom. His strongest jarl Nattan was gifted the island and city we now know as Senek to show his tenacity. The Kønigr had hoped the island would consume him since Nattan's popularity rivaled his own. To his surprise, Nattan adored the brown waste and build the island’s first village with the strongest men in the coldest region. To this day his constitution is remembered through an annual race around the island.
Near the mountain lives a tan frost giant, covered in moss and mold. He nurtures the brown mold and sees to it that every month or so the mold is spread over the land. His legend is older than the giants that wrote it, having been called an immortal spirit of the island. Where he walks, trees sprout as thick as a forest.
The first giant to hold the mold was Farfar Morozko, he had made the mold to weaken the red dragons that plagued the northern lands. The mold would eat at their flames and freeze their armies. This lineage of dragons have since lost their vibrant scales and been turned into the solitary ivory predators that still roam the lands today.
