Sarnai Sarangerel comes from the Sarangerel clan of Sea Elves who were displaced from their homewaters by invading fishing fleets and foreign mercenaries over 3 centuries ago.

Since then the Sarangerel clan has lived the nomadic life on and in the waters as a large flotilla. The only times they venture onto shore is to trade for resources they need or when an individual elf is ready to take their rite of passage. The Rite of Passage is an event where sea elves of the Sarangerel clan, who reach the young age of 30 years old, are told to leave the flotilla to explore the world on their own. While they're exploring the world they are to learn new skills and knowledge that will benefit the Flotilla upon their return. They are only to return when they feel they have learned enough to teach the Flotilla. Many Sarangerel either never return home for one reason or another or return home after a few hundred years.
