As the day breaks after the Night of Leeches, The Green Dragon Brotherhood takes stock and decides that as injured as they are, rescuing Sooney-Crow of No Family means pressing on instead of heading back to town to recuperate. In preparation for future encounters, William Dune inscribes a strange magical tattoo on Skarrow.
The Suurat Jungle is merciless. The party wastes a day going in circles, and Shiv Drinkstep is running out of rations at an alarming rate. They also forge a river that is deeper than expected and are nearly swept away before Skarrow transforms into a crocodile and swims them to shore. Everyone loses something from their gear in the chaos, though.
After a couple days of relatively calm travel, the party blunders into a patch of Flesh Eating Vines. While being crushed by a vine, William Dune invokes the magic tattoo on Skarrow, causing an Urgot to materialize and help the party fight. Every member is grabbed and while they break free, the vines are relentless. Finally Dune casts a fireball which causes the vines to wither, recoil, and die.
Several times on the journey, Dune confirms his magical bearings, telling the party they are heading in the correct direction to find Sooney. They finally come upon a burned out crater, where something obviously fell from the sky. The older members of the Brotherhood see the similarities between this crater and the one on the Trackless Moors, where a strange being from space fell and was eventually killed by the Grey Ooze they released from the Vault of Graxus.
While investigating the crater, the party is beset by a large number of Man-Eating Monkeys! These small beasts are easily killed, but fierce and hungry. They also seems to wear crude, hand-crafted leather jewelry. The party makes quick work of them, but one escapes and flees in the direction Dune says Sooney is.
Skarrow transforms into a monkey and follows. He soon finds some kind of Treetop Village filled with strange Giant Apes, some of whom wear crude clothing and speak some kind of language! He can also detect snippets of the common tongue being spoken by the apes. One stands out in particular, wearing a tunic and carrying a large axe - clearly the leader. No humans are present, though.
Upon returning to the party, Skarrow stumbles upon an ambush being set for them - monkeys and giant apes working together. Alas, he cannot maintain his stealth and ends up being chased all the way back to the party, and a fantastic number of monkeys and apes descend upon them. The monkeys seem to flock to the injured party members, and the apes maintain their distance, throwing large rocks and small boulders.
The Brotherhood fights bravely, employing clever tactics, brute force and well-timed magic, but the simians prove too strong and too smart - the party flees, with several members seriously injured and Skarrow on death’s door. Their luck holds, though, and they eventually evade the aggressors. While hiding in a murky jungle swamp, they nurse their wounds and ponder their next move…
