We began with Greer the Betrayer and Selm coming upon an old man being accosted by two thugs. Greer lept into action to help the man, but it turns out the old guy could hold his own.
Upon retiring to a tavern, they discovered his name is Lord Calder , a sick and dying ex-mercenary whose last wish is to be laid to rest at the Vault of Graxus. As luck would have it, their compatriot Titus Flint just so happened to be at the tavern and reminded them that getting out of town and away from Shenzu Raiders would probably be a good idea. A quick negotitation set the price and they were on their way, with Selm stocking up on rations before they left.
It was a five-day trek to the base of The Spine of Urgoth, and along the way, Titus schooled the party in the finer points of Yog Bug poison, while Greer recalled that the Spine of Urgoth is called that due to Urgoth’s actual spine being buried there. The trip took a toll on Calder, whose strength waned as they slogged through a murky, muddy swamp, which also claimed Greer’s grappling hook. Selm attempted healing, but disfavor with his mysterious patron led to a tear in The Veil, driving him mad and causing him to be recklessly brave and spoiling for a fight. Can he atone before he get himself killed?
Upon reaching the location of the Vault, they found it inhabited and guarded by a tribe of Urgoth. Stealth and smarts ruled the day and the sentries were quickly put to sleep when Titus deployed a fume flask. Charging past the cloud, the party was surprised to find one more Urgot, the Urgozer, waiting inside the cave mouth. Luckily, surprise and luck were on their side and he was dispatched before he was able to get a spell off.
