In the late days of the age of myth, the Cloven Beastfolk were born by the hand of dark powers. The result of a pact between a long-forgotten race of ancient Men and the powers of darkness, the Cloven live on in the current era, thriving in the untamed wildernesses, preying upon the weak.
In those ancient days of myth, they were the servants of The God that Hates, Zaros, and they have been deeply affected by their past. Within them lies a warlike cunning, willing to murder, steal and pillage. Behind their eyes that burn orange or red like coals, there is nothing but hate for all creatures unhorned, unhooved, unhaired.
Clovenfolk possess heads likened to that of cows, goats, or deer, with horns jutting out from their heads. The ferocity of the horns is indicative of strength of will among the Clovenfolk, held in high regard alongside the strength of the body. They possess the torso and arms of a man, and their waist and legs are goatlike. Their bodies are thickly haired in various shades of brown or black. Their lower bodies and heads are typically covered in longer hair, or even beards, which they like to decorate with bones, crude knots, or braids. They are hooved, and the thunderous sounds of hundreds of hooves and Voorish voices is likened to the sound of doom itself.
Cloven are omnivorous, but it is not uncommon for the worst among them to be cannibalistic carnivores. It is exceedingly rare for Clovenfolk to cultivate agricultural skills, so they survive off of what they can hunt, forage, scavenge, and loot. Many Beastfolk believe that they obtain the power of their fallen foes when they consume them.
Despite their long history with The God that Hates, some few Cloven clans have renounced their origin, and have proclaimed Cernos their new Father God and protector. These Clovenfolk harbor less hate, and seek to find their natural place among the wilds, marshlands, and great thickets of this world. It is common for the Cloven of Zaros and Cernos to come into bloody conflict.
