Elementals are creatures made up of the fundamental elements and natural forces, such as earth, air, water, fire, light, dark, and more. They are reclusive, and rarely appear in the material world. Instead, they find a place known as the Elemental Plane to be their native home. This world has intrinsic links to Myst and the world at large. Due to this, Elementals will often gather in places with excess amounts of Myst of a type they are fond of. A Fire elemental may appear in a place with wildfires, or excessive heat, for instance, or a Cold elemental in some of the coldest, Myst drenched places in the world. Some say that mortal souls who leave this world for the Elemental Plane are torn apart, turning the visitor into an elemental themselves.

As elementals are not physical by nature, killing them with conventional weapons is nigh impossible. However, most elementals are not aggressive unless approached or provoked.

Elementals are often seen as swirling spheres of Myst, or of their relative element. They are known to possess powerful, raw magics aligned with their element, and one simply existing on the material plane causes an abundance of Myst to proliferate the area.
