While you are in and out of combat, being at a higher elevation comes with benefits.
If the difference in height is great enough, a creature’s body might be partially covered by the cliff edge, the bottom of the balcony, or whatever may be helping them avoid taking hits. This means characters high enough above another attacking creature may benefit from Partial, Half or Majority Cover if they can see them, and Full Cover if they cant.
The high ground advantage grants you additional range on your ranged weapon attacks based on the difference in height between you and your target if you are above your target. You can gain up to double your weapon’s range in this way.
For example, if you are 40 feet above your target, you gain 40 feet of additional range for the attack.
When you perform a long jump, you gain additional jump length if it is performed from an elevated position. For every 15 feet you fall while performing a long jump, you would move forward an additional 5 feet.
