Dwarves

Dwarves

“Drunmar” in Alder, “Drawrdun” in Drunzagi.

The Dwarves are an ancient race of short but stout folk, with thick beards and wide bodies, relative to their height. Long lived and long storied, the Dwarves traditionally take on a trade, grinding their years away, honing their craft. They have reputation and history of creating wondrous works of craftsmanship, smithing, stonework, architecture, and spellcraft. The Dwarves highly value their immediate and extended family, their traditions spread through word of mouth and tales of deed. Dwarven elders often teach many younger generations, making these families very tightly knit. Dwarven society focuses on simple cares and prides, making them overall honorable, despite the greed based ambition flowing throughout. Each dwarven society has something they are distinctly proud of, or famously known for, and the older, the more things there may be. One dwarven tradition that most cultures uphold is the importance of a family name. It is a form of self protection and respect to hide their family names from strangers or those they distrust. Therefore, it is a great honor for a dwarf to tell you their family name openly. The alternative typically used is pronouncing their lineage, such as Thorrin, Son of Gurin, or Yuleg, Brother of Yuron.

Earthen Lore

Dwarves are intrinsically linked to the deep rock and stone, both below and above. From stone blocks carved from the mountain, to tunneled halls of the deep dwarven holds, a Dwarf can determine quality stone from weak, brittle or unstable rock. As a dwarf, when you make a skill or ability check to determine the quality, origin, type, or any other distinct feature of stone, such as if it is sloped or loose in its placement, you gain a +6 bonus to the check.
