The Golden Throne

The throne of the Kingdom of Mรณkhenor was created by the founder of the state, Nimrรณd. Ever since he created the ruling laws, the system has not changed. Currently, the seat of Power is held by the Bรกthory family, who rule over a war-torn shadow of a once mighty state.

The ruling monarch's job is to keep the peace between the clans, to bring prosperity to their people, and to continue the divine mandate. The monarch has ultimate authority over the military of the kingdom and the region around the capital, Leidenvail. Outside of this, laws are decided by vote, either by the Grรณfs of the seven clans, or by nobility and the church.

  • Krรกl (King/Queen)

    • The king is the highest level on the cultural pyramid, serving as the mortal judge of God. Their duty is to serve the realm justly and further the divine goal. The title of Krรกl has passed between the clans, each one at least once holding the title. Whenever a grรณf is crowned, they are expected to give up their title of Grรณf to a family member, but there have been moments in history where this did not happen.

  • Hand of the Krรกl

    • The Krรกl's hand is an elected office held by a member of the nobility. They serve as advisors to the ruling monarch, helping them pass through the confusing relationship of noble houses. Though there have been times where this office was used to subdue the monarch by the nobility.

  • Szlachta

    • The szlachta is the name used for the councils where the Grรณfs of the clans are invited to solve problems in the realm. These meetings are rarely called, as it allows the other clans to take power away from the crown, or it shows that the realm is in great peril.

  • Zjem

    • The Zjem is the annual meeting called between the nobility and the church. It is usually called to discuss matters between the nobles and the public, the public usually represented by the church members.

The place the Varjuist church holds in the political system of Mรณkhenor is highly specific. As the servants of God in this world, they are the only ones outside of the grรณfs and monarch themselves who are the only ones allowed to judge others. But due to their lack of noble status, they are not allowed to write laws themselves. For this reason, the church has been happy to let piast individuals go off almost freely and connect themselves with lesser noble houses. These alliances can sprout for many reasons, whether it be a piast lord or just the power it would grant to be friendly with the church.

Magic is seen as the aftermath of God's death. For this reason, magic is highly regulated by the church. Anyone practicing with "proper faith" is allowed to continue the practice of the arcane arts, but if one is found unworthy of casting, they are forced to no longer use their magical powers until they are found worthy. Under khรกnid law, it is punishable by death or by maiming if one uses the arcane arts without church approval.
