Many cultures have tales of their origins, and the Héroska themselves attribute their birth to the Gods (in their tongue), Gdarna and Arbn, Vital deities of the Sea and Winds, as their creators. The more populous, nomadic populations of the Southwestern Steppes tend to favor Madag, the Visionary deity of Great Beasts.
In terms of the geologic timescale, it is believed Héroska first branched off from others of the Kalmet (Human-like) Kind around 350 kya (it is yet undetermined whether this speciation began naturally or by the hand of the divine), coinciding with their arrival on the continent. By roughly 130 kya, they more or resembled modern populations.
Most Orcish groups in the present are mere remnants of what was once a cosmopolitan presence on Nimoria. The Dalro remain the largest of the remaining Orcish groups, and are widespread in the South of Nimoria. Their cousins, the Dalar, are generally smaller in number, but immensely diverse given more recent incorporation of remaining hunter-gatherer groups heading toward the more sedentary Dalar in the wake of recent population decline.
