The Istania are a mortal lineage born from catastrophe rather than natural evolution. Their ancestors were caught in the first wave of raw choral magic released when the Kindred Three pierced the veil, warping bodies and infusing elemental resonance into flesh and bone. Over generations, interbreeding with other blood stabilized their forms into a striking, humanoid race.

Istania are distinguished by crystalline horns, refractive eyes, and “Echo marks” which are gem-like growths along their head, spine, and tail that channel elemental affinities. Every Istania is bound to a specific crystal or gemstone, shaping both appearance and innate magical talent. Though mortal, they carry the echo of the Shattering in their bodies: a reminder of their origins and the potent, dangerous forces that forged them.

Istania stand between 135–205 cm at maturity, with most falling between 157–182 cm. Weight is proportional to height, often muscular due to subtle crystallization of bones. Horns and tails vary in shape and texture, while Echo marks manifest as crystalline or geode-like structures across the body. Skin tones range from human-like hues to vivid, unnatural shades, often accented with unique markings; eyes are prismatic, sometimes fractal, with sclera in black, white, or other uncommon colors.

They reach adulthood at around 21 years and may live up to 110 years. All Istania possess elemental affinities tied to their crystal resonance, influencing both appearance and abilities. Diet is omnivorous but leans toward meat, with preferences sometimes shaped by elemental alignment. Culturally, they favor caution around magic, often pursuing martial or suppressive disciplines, though individual practices vary widely.
