Floren (Halflings)
/

The Floren Kind, small and agile, stand between 2’8” and 3’4” (81–100 cm) on average, a stature attributed to long generations spent among the tropical archipelagos between Estera and Nimoria. Their bodies are lean and well-suited to forested terrain and coastal life, with excellent balance and surefootedness, many favor going barefoot when conditions allow.

Their limbs follow Human proportions, though they retain youthful features into adulthood: round faces, wide eyes, and soft contours. This neoteny often leads outsiders to mistake them for children. Skin tones typically range from golden-bronze to deep brown, with hair textures from soft waves to tight curls, and eyes most commonly brown or green. Their eyesight is sharp, even in dim light or underwater, aiding both forest movement and sea navigation.

Life in and around the ocean has shaped many Floren communities into skilled swimmers and divers, capable of holding their breath longer than most Kalmenid lineages and descending to notable depths. While their exact physiology is not well understood, this trait is considered a hallmark of their coastal heritage.

Floren mature at a pace similar to Humans, reaching adulthood in their twenties, but seem to leave a good deal longer. Yet again, their youthful appearance often obscures the signs of age. They show little sexual dimorphism, and socially both men and women engage equally in physical work, sailing, and hunting. Though generally hardy, they are more sensitive to cold and may be vulnerable to unfamiliar illnesses outside their native islands—just as their own lands may hold sicknesses unknown to outsiders.
