❝ A Floren will laugh at a storm then dive headfirst into it to see what hides beneath.
That is who they are, curiosity as a compass, always pointing forward. ❞— Jahi Tumeri, Island Elder of Drackmos, Sarnevalia

Floren, commonly called Halflings, are a diminutive, seafaring people descended from Humans and other Kalmenids. They emerged tens of millennia ago along the islands of what is now known to many as the Sarnevalian Archipelago, where generations of island life honed their agility, balance, and adaptability.
Though small in stature, Floren are resilient, resourceful, and deeply tied to both land and sea. They live in close-knit communities and prioritize kinship, cooperation, and navigation skills. Their ingenuity in shipbuilding, foraging, and herbal lore makes them valued across the archipelago and beyond.
Floren retain youthful features into adulthood, standing between 81–100 cm, with lean, well-proportioned bodies built for climbing, swimming, and forest movement. Skin ranges from golden-bronze to deep brown, hair from soft waves to tight curls, and eyes most commonly green or brown. While they mature in their twenties, their youthful appearance persists, often leading outsiders to mistake them for children. Floren are hardy omnivores, emphasizing foraged, marine, and gardened foods, with a remarkable tolerance for certain plant toxins.

Floren stand between 81–100 cm in height, with minimal differences between sexes. They possess lean, athletic builds, with long, agile limbs and excellent balance. Hair and skin tones vary by island ancestry, ranging from golden-bronze to deep brown, with hair textures from soft waves to tight curls. Eyes are most commonly brown or green, and their rounded faces and wide eyes give them a perpetually youthful appearance.
They reach adulthood in their early twenties and have lifespans similar to humans, though their youthful features often persist long into adulthood. Floren are omnivorous, favoring foraged fruits, tubers, fish, and other marine life, supplemented by cultivated crops when available. Their physiology and upbringing make them skilled swimmers, climbers, navigators, and foragers. Culturally, they favor cooperative, kinship-oriented communities, often organized through consultative leadership and communal effort, with a strong emphasis on trust, adaptability, and shared survival.
