Beastfolk, also known as Therianids, weren’t always sapient. Around 145,000 years ago, Wyrd points of resonance began forming between the veil of the Wyrd and the Aria. Many animal populations were exposed to the energy exchange radiating from both realms and this surge of magic caused a series of mutations over time both physiologically and intellectually, with the purpose of adapting to their new environment.
Mere centuries after their initial exposure, they evolved into full sapients. This phenomenon wasn’t limited to just Nimoria either, occurring across all of Yoren particularly in the northern reaches of the continent of Esternia (which eventually led to the formation of the Beastfolk dominated empire of Maelstravia).
Animals that resided near these Chorus Points underwent significant changes. Most developed more humanoid features, including the ability to walk upright a physical shift in their anatomy and physiology, lengthening the spine into a bipedal form, a fixed range of aging 70 - 100 and gained intelligence and linguistic competence comparable to Kalmenids and similarly intelligent races.
The accelerated evolution also left some vestigial traits on Therianids. For instance, tails that were once used for balance or wings that can no longer support flight in larger avianoid beastfolk though gliding is still possible.
Over time, Beastfolk began intermingling with other sapient races, eventually forming their own cultures or integrated into existing ones, leading to the diverse population seen today.
