The Sarnevalian Fleet, known as the Tideguard, is maintained by the Sailwarden and funded by Merchant Guilds, with local harbor militias supplementing them in emergencies. Naval service is prestigious, but coastal defense and militia duty are largely voluntary.

Gender is not a barrier; all have commanded ships and led boarding crews since the Ark Nevalion but class often shapes rank: merchant heirs and guild scions train as officers, while commoners serve as sailors, marines, or helmsmen.

Port Ramu maintains its own independent Tideguard division.

Sarnevalian weapons prioritize speed, utility, and practicality. They are mostly crafted from local materials and inscribed with ritual markings, while foreign techniquesโ€”metalworking, bindings, and ornamentation are adapted from neighbors like the Mokhenor, Seishin, Vayshnavan, and Xevalians rather than directly copied.

Armor and weapons are as much cultural items as tools: pieces carry lineage inscriptions and wave motifs, and some categories (notably true war blades) are restricted from foreign sale. Regional variations reflect available materials and island craft traditions.

Modern Sarnevalians reject conquest, holding that the tide claims only what is freely offered.

Civil wars are remembered as tragic lessons rather than triumphs. After generations of exile and occupation, the Council of Tides declared expansion for its own sake a betrayal of the Tidemotherโ€™s will.

Today, Sarnevalia maintains a defensive stance: the fleet safeguards trade, protects sacred waters, and intervenes only when lives or balance are at risk, fighting not for dominion, but for dignity.

Although the culture seeks expansion, they resort to nonconfrontational methods usually occupying locations not claimed as territory by other nations.
