Paradise Lost.
The Morahau, once Valari like all of Elvenkind, awoke to a world bathed in nascent perfection. Here, life was a vibrant tapestry woven from art, music, and the pursuit of knowledge. Dwelling alongside the wise Eotenari, they learned of their role in this paradise, a symphony where every note played its part. But this idyllic harmony was shattered. The world, once a promise of endless bliss, succumbed to a cataclysmic event, plunging the Morahau into an abyss of misfortune and tragedy.
This brutal awakening forged a cornerstone of their beliefs: a deep, abiding resentment. The world they were promised, the world they cherished, lay in ruins. The shattering not only stole their paradise, but shattered their trust. Now, the Morahau view existence with a wary cynicism. Nothing, they believe, can be guaranteed, and trust, once freely given, is a luxury they can no longer afford.
Under Siege.
The Morahau exist under a constant siege. Aberrant creatures, spawned in the deepest reaches of the Dark Below, the subterranean continent beneath their city, claw their way upwards through the Sythilia. These horrors, with origins in the mysterious void, were seeded long ago by a monstrous astral-wurm. This creature, a traveler of the stars, shattered the continent in a rampage to consume aether, leaving behind a legacy of darkness. Now, the Morahau serve as a desperate bastion, acting as the last line of defense against these void-spawn tainting the resplendent world of Valurn above.
The constant threat from the depths has molded the Morahau culture. While they retain the traditional elven reverence for individual life, the harsh reality of their small numbers forces them to highly prize martial skill. Every life becomes a vital bulwark against the encroaching darkness.
Ritual Scarring.
In an effort to retain their heritage and words, early Morahau began the practice of etching the Elvish language upon their skin. This quickly evolved into an art form, given Elvish propensity for wishing to reflect their ideals of beauty into their work.
These etchings, a unique blend of personal expression and cultural preservation, illuminate the wearer's path and serve as a constant reminder of their connection to the The Starwell's celestial power and their own heritage.
The scarification needs maintenance over time as Elvish natural healing will eventually dull it.
