An Aetherfont is an object (or being) through which the aetherial energy of Nheros passes. While all creatures possess aether, only aetherfonts serve as something through which aether both enters and exits. Most mortal races unknowingly use it as life energy and when it is spent, they perish.
The The Starwell was and is a gigantic aetherfont created to serve as a means to provide the Realmstar of Nhera with energy enough to create and sustain life. Elves serve as relatively small aetherfonts, providing them with immortality as well as other side-effects.
Creating an aetherfont is a specific, complex process often employed by alchemists and usually serves the purpose of channeling aether to transform objects and energies or, for only the most skilled alchemists, to create and animate life.
This most often takes the form of Dwarven Arcsmiths infusing Arcfire into their machina. Though Arcsmithing creates something more akin to a closed-circuit than a true aetherfont.
