Overview.
Elves would appear to offworld viewers to be superficially similar to humans with key differences immediately visible. Of note, their appearances as a species are more notably homogenous with far less variety in shape and size than other species might possess. Having been created for a purpose by the ancients of the Realm-matrix, their physiognomy and appearances are less up to chance as their bodies are specially crafted for them in the great astral forges. They are a divinity's creation made to serve a purpose.
Physiognomy.
Notably and famously androgynous in both face and build. It may be difficult to tell sexes, identities or genders apart unless one is familiar with their kind. Elves seem to age quickly for their first few decades and then stop. A mortal would almost never see an elf companion's appearance change in their life. Longer-lived species may be privy to the subtle maturity that paints elves every few centuries.
Height.
Elves of Nhera are generally on the taller side, rarely falling shorter than 5'10" [155 cm] with the oldest amongst them often reaching well over 6' [183 cm].
Ears.
Their ears are long and piked, with Valari having shorter ears while their western and subterranean kin having longer ears. Females may often have longer ears than males. Elven ears are important to their sensing abilities and this is thought to be the reason dark elves evolved longer ones; They were those elves that ventured from the light of the The Starwell into the darklands. Due to their high nerve content and purpose, they are erogenous.
Build.
Nheran elves are always slender, elegant beings. A result of their cosmic-origin construction. Their incarnations are less up to chance and not subject to the whims of genetics.
Light Aura.
As a result of their bodies serving as Aetherfonts, they naturally give off a subtle Light Aura. While it is easily visible to their own kind, other creatures- particularly humans, dwarves or orcs- may struggle to see it. Valari (High Elves) and most Druhau (Under Elves) have a light aura of gold silver. Draihari (Dark Elves) have a much more dim, sometimes non-existent light.
Colouration.
Nheran Elves come in a myriad of colours influenced by their location and history. See individual sub-species sections for greater detail.
Blood.
Elves, with their profound connection to aether, possess blood that shimmers with an ethereal luminescence. The Elvish word for blood, "Faeyore," translates to "spirit fire," reflecting their understanding of its role as a carrier of life force. Their blood can range from a shimmering silver or brilliant gold among those nearest to the The Starwell and its energy, or inky, starry black among the Drâihari.
