Battle Chefs are competitive cooks who duke it out in an arena, akin to gladiators. 'Cook-offs' are frequently held at arenas throughout Hub, like Cauldron, in which cooks of high caliber square off against each other in a sensational manner. Often, the flair in which the dish is cooked is as important, if not more, than the actual end result. It's common for these battles to have knives flying around, liquids caught in mid-air, and other acrobatic flourishes. Because of this, cook-offs are the primary form of entertainment in the Heart Realm, and as such, successful Battle Chefs are held in high esteem, much like professional athletes.

Officious cook-offs are hosted and organized by Showrunners, but some impromptu cook-offs also allow for whoever is in the area to judge instead.

It’s also common for Battle Chefs to travel the world, either in a troupe as an entertainer or to gain experience in sourcing and tasting rare ingredients.

Associated Guilds

Cook-offs are an integral part of Heart Realm culture and can be found among members of any guild. It is said that cook-offs by the Society of Gastronomancy are particularly spectacular, but there have been reported instances of serious injury to the competitors. The Black Bookies are also known to host some cook-offs in less legitimate circumstances.
