Some Guardians have been known to develop or enhance weapons with the assistance of old Hive Magic. Some view these practices as heretical, while others are zealous in their value for this... corruption. Several Exotic Weapons are known to be Weapons of Sorrow.

Weapons of Sorrow are a means for a Guardian to change their selected weapon's damage type to Corruption. This may come in the form of a favour to a Dredgen, or a visit to Eris Morn, or the methods could even be claimed from the home of a high-ranking Hive Wizard. Many in the Vanguard consider the creation of a Weapon of Sorrow heresy, but sometimes the desperate times since the Dark Ages leads to more heretical ingenuity.

Once a weapon becomes a Weapon of Sorrow, it can only be changed back through a purification ritual where the weapon is bathed... or perhaps drowned... in the Light.

If the original weapon has an Element-specific Main Perk, such as Destabilizing Rounds or Chill Clip, it is replaced with a new perk, listed below. If the Main Perk was Ascended before, it remains Ascended.
