Crafting Rules

The crafting system within Domos is based on the one in Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, with some additional restrictions. A character who has the necessary material, the necessary tools, the necessary proficiency and the necessary location can use downtime to craft armor, weapons, clothing, or other kinds of non-magical gear.

A character needs to either gain or buy raw materials worth half of the item's purchase cost. To determine how many workweeks it takes to create an item, its gold piece cost is divided by 50. A character can complete multiple items in a workweek if the items' combined cost is 50 gp or lower, but there is a limit to this, specifics can be found below*. Items that cost more than 50 gp can be completed over longer periods of time, as long as the work in progress is stored in a safe location.

Multiple characters can combine their efforts, but everyone who collaborates needs to have the appropriate tool proficiency and tool. The time needed to create an item will be divided by the number of characters working on it. The limit to how many characters can work on an item depends on the item. For example a particularly tiny item, like a ring, might allow only one worker, whereas a large, complex item might allow more workers.

Crafted items fall under our item trading rule as untradeable goods, you are required to mark them as crafted items in their title, not doing this will be seen as an attempt at cheating. The creator of the post is the owner of the item and cannot share it during missions. Working together on an item does not enable you to share it.

Format:

  • Title: the name of the item that you want to craft.

  • State your character’s tool proficiencies, or at least the ones you think you’re going to use for this crafting project.

  • Where you will get the raw material from, or what raw material you would like to use. If you want to include strange materials try to be very detailed in how and where you got it.

  • Which crafting location you are going to use to craft the item.

This will then either be approved, denied, or more information will be asked. If it is approved a DM will state how many workweeks it will take, how much money you spend and how many people can work on it at the same time.

Examples:

Title: Greatsword

  • Tool proficiency: Smithy

  • I will get 25 gp worth of materials from the Smithy

  • At the smithy.

Title: Leather armor with monster skin

  • Tool proficiency: Leatherworker's Tools

  • I can get 5 gp worth of material from the tannery, but if possible I would like to decrease the price by incorporating the skin I got from **insert monster here** that I fought and skinned in **insert mission here**.

  • At the Tannery.

Restrictions:

  • The gear has to already exist within a book for which the content is used in Domos; players can not invent their own gear.

  • You can not make refined material out of raw material. For example you can’t turn crude platinum to standardized platinum.

  • You can not make a tool. For example you can’t make smith’s tools, even if you are proficient with them.

  • *There are limits to how many items you can make in one week. When it comes to armor and weapons you can make a maximum of four items. If the weapons have a thrown property this number is doubled to eight. You can make ten pieces of adventuring gear that is below 1 gold piece and five pieces if the item costs more than 1 gold piece.
