Genasi are not the descendants of genies. They are the result of a child being born during when one of the four elemental ley lines burst out from the ground and into the sky. The event is called an Aurorean Font and only lasts for a brief time before the ley line drifts back down beneath the earth.

Racial Trait - Air Form
You can use your action to unleash the elemental energy within yourself, causing your appearance to take on an air-like form.
Your transformation lasts until the start of your next turn. During it, you can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide without squeezing. You can also move through a hostile creature's space, but you can’t willingly end your turn in another creature’s space. Each creature you move through must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 1d8 slashing damage on a failed save. DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Dexterity modifier.
This damage increases by 1d8 when you reach 5th level (2d8), 11th level (3d8), and 17th level (4d8). In addition, at 5th level the damage now counts as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
Racial Trait - Earth Glide
You can use your action to unleash the elemental energy within yourself, causing your appearance to take on an earth-like form.
Your transformation lasts until the start of your next turn. During it, you can burrow through nonmagical, unworked earth and stone. While doing so, you don’t disturb the material it moves through.
Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
Racial Trait - Fire Form
You can use your action to unleash the elemental energy within yourself, causing your appearance to take on an fire-like form.
Your transformation lasts until the start of your next turn. During it, you can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide without squeezing.
